Brief description: The Japan Basis for
UNU (JFUNU) Scholarship is vacant for owing candidates from developing
countries who can determine a requirement for financial support and who are decided
admissions to the PhD Programme in Sustainability Science at United Nations
University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).

Scholarship value/duration: The
scholarship offers a monthly budget of 120,000 JPY for living expenses for
a all-out of 36 months. Transportable costs to and from Japan, visa management
fees, and health/accident insurance costs must be protected by the student. The
tuition fees are totally renounced for the scholarship beneficiaries.
Eligibility: Candidates for the PhD
in Sustainability Science are compulsory to have met ALL of the following necessities
by the application closing date in order to be considered:
1. Strong interest in
sustainability studies;
2. Demonstrated obligation
to study and understand global issues;
3. A completed
Master’s degree in disciplines interrelated to sustainability studies and a
minimum of 2 years of practical field knowledge related to UNU-IAS research
themes
OR Two completed
Master’s degrees, at least 1 of which must be in corrections related to
sustainability studies;
4. A GPA of 3.5 or
above on a 4.0 scale on at least one of the Master’s degrees earned; and
5. English language
proficiency

Requirements for the scholarships:
- Candidates
must be from developing countries* who can establish a need for financial
assistance.
- Candidates
who are currently living in Japan under a working visa are NOT qualified
for the scholarship.
- Candidates
who want to chase a second PhD degree at UNU-IAS are not qualified for the
scholarship.
