UNESCO/Republic of Korea Co-Sponsored Scholarships Programme

Republic of Korean Scholarships
“Teacher Training for Basic Education”

What is it about: In line with the approach and objectives allowable in 37 C/5 for UNESCO’s Scholarships Programme in application of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by UNESCO and the Korea Worldwide Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in 2013, the Government of the Republic of Korea is donation twenty five (25) fellowships of no more than 2 months’ duration.

E xpected at enhancing human resources and national capacity-building in least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa and Asia-Pacific, these fellowships will enable candidates to conduct research work or participate in a training course in the Republic of Korea.  The medium of instruction is English.

Field of Study: Course Title:  “Teacher Training for Basic Education”; “Use of ICT for Education (or e-Learning)”; and “Leadership in Global Education”.

The field of study is associated with UNESCO’s objectives and programme priorities accepted in 37 C/5 and in accordance with the assessment made by the Executive Board  (i.e. 161 EX/Decision 3.6.3 and 165 EX/Decision 8.6).
Duration:  (2 months) From 14 September to 13 November 2016

Qualifications Required: UNESCO will solicit applications from least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa and Asia-Pacific.

A. Candidatures must comply with the following criteria:
1.      Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree
2.      Applicants must be proficient in English
3.      Applicants must not be more than 50 years of age
4.      Applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically
5.      Applicants must have a minimum 5-year career in the field of Education (i.e., educational policy, development of educational material or curriculum, school/class management and teacher’s training).
B. All applications must be approved by the National Commission for UNESCO and must be made on a UNESCO fellowship application form
C. The implementing agency in the Republic of Korea will be the KOICA/APCEIU.
D. The following documents must be attached to the application form in duplicate:
1.      Photocopies of diplomas and school-certified transcript of academic records
2.      Certificate of English Language Proficiency by an official authority (if English is not the medium of instruction in the home country)
3.      Two photographs

Only preferred applicants will be compulsory to submit a medical examination report.  The Fellowships division will send a medical examination form to preferred applicants during the issuance of the fellowship award. 
E. Files which are incomplete or which are expected after the closing date for the submission of applications and candidatures, which do not fulfill the requirements mentioned above, will not be taken into consideration.
F. Every invited Member Sate will be requested to nominate not more than 2 applicants. 
G. UNESCO will submit to the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea/KOICA the application files received from the invited Member States.  It is understood that KOICA will cooperate with the Asia-Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) in the evaluation of these dossiers.

Selection of Beneficiaries: A. The final assortment of the beneficiaries for a fellowship lies with the KOICA/APCEIU/Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO.

B. Applicants not informed of their assortment by 13 July 2016 should consider that the donor government has not permitted their applications.
Least Developed Countries(LDCs): AFRICA: Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Angola, Benin, Burkina-Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Togo, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, and Zambia. 

Asia & the Pacific: Cambodia, Kiribati, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Samoa, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Facilities offered by Korea: A. Beneficiaries of these fellowships will be exempt from tuition fees for the duration of the study/training.

B. Fellows will undertake studies/training under the supervision of an advisor or study director that will be provided by the host institution.
C. The donor Government will pay stipends to beneficiaries on a monthly basis, in local currency.  The stipends are proposed to cover living expenses such as accommodation, meals, pocket expenses, and incidentals.  The donor will determine the amount of the stipend to be approved to beneficiaries.
D. Health Insurance.

Facilities offered by UNESCO: 1. UNESCO will cover worldwide travel expenses, estimated at approximately  US$2,500 per fellow, and will pay a one-time travel allowance amounting to US $200 per fellow.

Other Condition: A. No provision to finance or lodge fellows’ family members can be made.
B. Beneficiaries will be necessary to submit a final report upon termination of the fellowship, signed jointly by the fellow and his/her advisor or study/training director.  A copy of this report will be sent to the KOICA/APCEIU.

What is it about: The Government of the People's Republic of China has positioned at the clearance of UNESCO for the academic year 2016-2017, under the co-sponsorship of UNESCO, seventy-five (75) scholarships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These scholarships are for the advantage of developing Member States in Africa, Asia–Pacific, Latin America, Europe and North America and Arab province.

The scholarship, reasonable at a selected  number of Chinese universities, are for a duration of 1 year. These fellowships, are in most luggage to be conducted in English. In excellent cases, applicants may be requisite to study Chinese language before taking up research/study in their fields of interest.
