Brief description: The DRD proposes a limited number of DAAD merit scholarships for every year for candidates from Sub-Saharan African countries with an outstanding academic record, to pursue development-related Masters and PhD studies.

Target group: The scholarships are projected for nationals of Sub-saharan African countries.

Scholarship value/inclusions: Scholarships consist of monthly allowances of 650 Euro for Master applicants and 900 Euro for PhD applicants plus travel allowances. Mobility scholarships are also vacant for Master students every year.

Eligibility: Scholarship candidates are advised to carefully read about the specific entry necessities and course application method of the programme of their choice. The information is vacant from the respective programmes sections. In addition to programme requirements, all candidates have to meet the following requirements:

•  Candidates should be from Sub-Sahara Africa
•  Candidates should have an excellent academic record – at least 70% for your last degree
•  Candidates should submit an application within 3 years of having completed their previous degree
•  The study must have been completed at an internationally recognised university
•  The previous degree (Baccalaureus or Master) should have been an academic discipline which is related to  Development Studies or Public Administration
•  South African students are necessary to have an honours degree in order to be admitted to a Masters degree course.  Other students need the equivalent of a 4 year undergraduate degree
• Candidates must supply evidence of proficiency in English, both written and spoken. This can be TOEFL test or a similar standard test or a letter from an academic institution

Masters (MS) Degree

Brief description: Wagner announces a call for applications for the African Women Public Service Scholarship, a scholarship program made probable by a contribution from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, which expands the opportunity for African women to systematize for public service in their home countries.

Field of study: As scholas at NYU Wagner, African women study in one of two graduate programs: the 2-year Master of Public Administration or the 1-year Executive MPA: Concentration on International Public Service Organizations.

Scholarship value/inclusions: The awards for either program will support tuition, housing, travel to and from the United States and a small stipend to cover books and miscellaneous expenses.

Eligibility: To succeed for the Scholarship, prospective candidates must meet the general admissions criteria stipulated here and be citizens and resident in an African country at the time of application. NYU Wagner’s admissions committee pays particular awareness to applications from women who possess strong academic records; who have a demonstrated commitment to public service; and for whom a Wagner education would significantly enhance their capacity to have a deep and lasting impact on public service issues in their home country and region.

Candidates commit to return to their particular home countries at the conclusion of the program with the goal of assuming a leadership situation on the continent where they can meaningfully donate to the challenges currently confronting Africa.

MBA Degree

Brief description: ESMT proposes special-tuition scholarships to female applicants applying to the ESMT Full-time MBA program with an exceptionally strong GMAT score and a record of academic brilliance at undergraduate level.

Scholarship value/inclusions: The scholarship value is up to €15,000.

Eligibility: All applicants with a GMAT score of over 700 are qualified.

Application instructions: Applicants require to supply their authorized GMAT scores (not older than five years) and should complete the scholarship essay as part of their ESMT online application explaining how they succeed for this scholarship. The scholarship closing date coincides with admissions closing date: 2 April, 1 July, 1 October, and 2 November of the preceding year. Many of ESMT’s competitive scholarships are awarded by the 1 October closing date.

PhD Degree

Brief description: Thanks to bighearted funding from the Society of the Sacred Heart, 3 fully-funded, full-time PhD studentships are presented for new abroad students, starting 1 October 2017. The studentships are for the support of 3 applicants with a strong academic record and the potential for academic brilliance at doctoral level.

Preference will be specified to applicants from lower or middle income countries. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to contributing to their home community through their planned research project or area of study, and through their future career plans.

Host Institution(s): University of Roehampton, UK

Level/Field of study: PhD Programme where the considered research project or area of study, may be, for example, related to education, human rights, theology/philosophy, other topics relevant to justice, community service, environmental development.

This is only an analytic list; no disciplinary areas are excluded, and specific projects and intentions will be assessed in relation to the broad criterion of making a donation to the student’s home community.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration: The scholarship covers the fees at overseas rates, stipend at Research Council UK rates, currently £16,057 (tax-free), and contribution to research project costs.

The scholarships are for 3 years, subject to annual assessments of  satisfactory progress.

Eligibility: You must meet the standard requirements for PhD study at Roehampton. The criteria are:

•  Academic brilliance – record to date and potential

• Nationality and domicile (applicants must pronounce all nationalities held; preference will be given to those who are solely citizens of and domiciled in lower-middle income countries*)

• Commitment to contributing to the student’s home community

• Fit of expected project to the research environment at Roehampton and offered supervisory expertise
