Vanier Canadian Government Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS)

Brief description: The Vanier Canadian Government Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) was produced to interest and recall world-class doctoral students and to launch Canada as a global center of brilliance in investigation and higher learning.  The scholarships are towards a doctoral degree (or joint MA/PhD or MD/PhD).
Host Institution(s): Canadian Universities with Vanier CGS apportionment. Without omission, the Vanier CGS is acceptable only at the suitable Canadian organization that submitted the suggestion.
Level/Field(s) of study: PhD programmes (or shared MA/PhD or MD/PhD) in health investigation; natural sciences and/or engineering research; and social sciences and/or humanities research.
Number of Scholarships: Up to 167 scholarships are granted yearly.
Target group: Canadian residents, permanent peoples of Canada and overseas residents are suitable to be selected for a Vanier CGS.
Scholarship value/duration: The scholarships is worth $50,000 each year for 3 years.
Eligibility: To be measured for a Vanier CGS, you must:
• be selected by only one Canadian organization, which must have received a Vanier CGS quota;
• be following your 1st doctoral degree (including shared undergraduate/graduate research program such as: MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD – if it has a demonstrated and significant research component). Note that only the PhD serving of a mutual degree is suitable for capital;
• propose to pursue, in the summer semester or the educational year following the statement of results, full-time doctoral (or a combined graduate program such as: MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD) studies and research at the proposing organization; Note that only the PhD serving of a joint degree is qualified for funding;
• not have completed more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2018
• have attained a 1st-class average, as determined by your organization, in each of the last 2 years of full-time study or equivalent. Applicants are encouraged to contact the organization for its meaning of a 1st-class regular; and
• must not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.
Application instructions: Applicants must be selected by a Canadian Institution with a quota at which they want to study. Applicants cannot apply directly to the Vanier CGS program.   
Applications are initiated in one of two ways. Either the student informs the faculty of graduate studies at the selected organization of their determined to submit an application to the Vanier CGS program OR the organization recruits the nomination process by communicating the desired applicant.
Applications are arranged by the student and submitted to the nominating institution by their interior closing date using the Research Net application system.  The proposing organization then onwards suggested proposals to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat (the Secretariat) by 1 November 2017.

Brief description:  South African Square Kilometre Array is awarding postgraduate-level research (doctoral and masters) bursaries programme for 2016-2017. South African applicants or citizens of Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia are eligible to apply for these Bursaries. The South African Square Kilometre Array vision is to participate, through its role in the field of higher education and scientific research, in the creation of a unified, developed and advanced South African Nation. The Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope – or SKA – will be the world’s biggest telescope – and one of the biggest scientific projects – ever.

Course Level: Bursaries are available for pursuing Postgraduate-level research (Doctoral and Masters) programme.

Study Subject: Bursaries are awarded for the topic relevant to the scientific and technical goals of the SKA and MeerKAT radio telescopes.

Eligibility: The South African SKA Project will consider applications from academically excellent students who wish to undertake postgraduate-level research relevant to the scientific and technical goals of the SKA and MeerKAT radio telescopes, and who are: South African citizens, and permanent residents of South Africa; or Citizens of Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.


Nationality: South African citizens and permanent residents of South Africa; or Citizens of Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia are eligible to apply for these Bursaries.

Brief description: The CIMO Fellowships programme is available to young Doctoral stage students and researchers from every countries and from every academic fields who desire to follow their Doctorate (or Double Doctorate) at a Finnish university. Master’s level studies or post-doctoral studies/research are not supported in the programme.
Host Institution(s): Accredited Finish Host Institutions.

Level/Field of study: PhD Degree in every academic fields.
Number of Scholarships: Not specified.
Target group: Every worldwide students but emphasis is specified to applicants from Russia, China, India, Chile, Brazil and North America.
Scholarship value/duration: The scholarship time may vary from three to twelve months. The monthly payment is 1,500 euros. The scholarship is projected to cover living operating cost in Finland for a single one. No extra allowance for housing is paid. Everyday expenditure due to worldwide travel to and from Finland are not covered by CIMO.
Eligibility/Application Requirements: The prerequisite for submit is that the visiting researcher must have established contacts with a Finnish host university – please observe the section ‘Doctoral Admissions‘ for additional information (you’ll find links to the universities’ Doctoral Admissions pages there). You are also advised to browse the Finnish universities’ own websites for info on Doctoral level study and research options.

If a Finnish university is willing to host you, then the Finnish university department wishing to host you can submit an application to CIMO for the grant on your behalf. In other terms, only the hosting Finnish university can act as an “applicant” in the CIMO Fellowship programme.
There are no yearly application closing date in the CIMO Fellowship programme. Applications may be measured at all times. However, please note that applications should be submitted at least 5 months before the intended scholarship time.
