Brief description: The ADB-Japan Scholarship programme plans to offer an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific area. Scholarship value/inclusions: The ADB-JSP offers for the scholar’s tuition fees, airfare to and from Auckland, basic cost of living, health and medical insurance, and a special scholarship for thesis preparation (for scholars engaged in research).
Eligibility: Eligible candidates must be / have:
  1. A national of an ADB borrowing member (candidates from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not suitable for the ADB-JSP). For a list of current developing member countries browse ADB – Japan Scholarship Programme.
  2. Gained admission to an approved masters or doctoral programme at an approved academic institution.
  3. A bachelors degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
  4. At least 2 years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.
  5. Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be capable to pursue studies.
  6. Not more than 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programmes which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years.
  7. In good health.
  8. Suitable candidates should agree to return to their home country after completion of studies under the programme.
  9. Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not suitable for the Scholarship.
  10. Staff of JSP-designated institutions are not suitable to submit an application to their own institution.
  11. Candidates living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not suitable for scholarships.
  12. ADB-JSP does not support candidates who are already enrolled in graduate degree programs.
  13. ADB-JSP does not sponsor undergraduate studies, distance learning programmes, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, and research projects.
Application instructions: Only after you have gained admission to an entitled postgraduate programme listed above for the 2017 intake and received an Official Offer of Place from the University of Auckland can you submit an application for the scholarship. Thus, you must first submit an application for admission ONLINE as a global candidate for one of the suitable programmes.
To submit an application for the scholarship, you will need to complete and submit the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship application form and either post or courier with all required documents to the University. Applications for 2017  will close on 20 July 2016.

Brief description: The Joint Master’s Degree (MSc) Programme on Integrated Drylands Management conveys together different proficiency and scientific property of the partner institutes to build advanced human capital, and generate and adapt global knowledge for local solutions in drylands. The programme gives young professionals and scientists a worldwide perception on integrated property management approaches in drylands and permits them to achieve practical experience in different dryland countries.
Throughout the programme, a strong emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary approaches. The MSc Programme will propose a short concentrated course and field research leading to the development of a Master’s thesis.

During the course work in 2016, IRA will house the students with full boarding and lodging in a appropriate accommodation in Médenine, Tunisia. During laboratory research work, TU will give non-Japanese students with payment for accommodation and meals in Tottori, Japan.
Eligibility Criteria: Admission is based on the following criteria:
• Candidates must already be registered in a Master’s degree programme at one of the Programme partner institutes and have completed their basic course work.

• Candidates registered in a Master’s programme at an accredited university outside the Programme partners may be suitable to submit an application if they have completed their basic coursework, and can establish a link with a Programme partners for their field research and thesis work which will be undertaken jointly with their current supervisor. Such candidates should contact the interested Programme partner institute directly to explore options and arrangements.
• Candidates must demonstrate a verified aptitude in appropriate research methodologies, laboratory and computer skills.
• Candidates must demonstrate proof of proficiency in English (oral and written).
• Candidates must submit a research proposal of 5 pages, whose precedence aligns with that of programme partner who will host the proposed research.
• Working experience in dryland management is attractive.
